Here are some sources of data:

This site links to various dataset across the federal government.

www.Data.gov -- repository for data and geodata from across the federal government, searchable by agency, data type, keyword, among others. Many, but not all Commerce data sets reside here.

Joey, I'm trying to use this data set http://explore.data.gov/Foreign-Commerce-and-Aid/U-S-Trade-Overview-Presentation/knif-ny94 but for external link it says "Link Unknown" - how can I access the data? Thanks

Hi David. What you're trying to link to is not actually a data set per se, but a Powerpoint presentation. This presentation can be found at the link below about 3/4 of the way down under "Recent Updates".

Thanks is there anyway to get the actual data so I can use it in an app?

Hi David. What data are you looking for? Most trade-related data is collected by the Census Bureau. On the home page of this challenge under "About the Challenge" there is a "read more" link that gives links many DOC (and Census) data repositories. If there is a specific type of data you're looking for and can't find, let us know and we can ask data owners if/where the data resides.

  • Manager   •   about 14 years ago

    Hi David,
Unfortunately, we're not supposed to give out our email addressess on the Challenge forum, but rather are supposed to answer questions in the discussions blog. I'd be happy to answer whatever question(s) you have, though.

In answer to your question "Using Data from BusinessUSA.gov" The data connected to BusinessUSA.gov is more than just Commerce DATA. To get credit for Commerce data you should choose data from one of the Commerce sources.

    They are:
    Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA)
Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS)
Bureau of the Census (Census Bureau)
    Economic Development Administration (EDA)
    Economics and Statistics Administration (ESA)
    International Trade Administration (ITA)
    Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
    National Technical Information Service (NTIS)
National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA)
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
    Office of the Secretary (OS)

    Joey
